Today, we would like to focus on our Wanlong angle-type globe valve. In complex industrial piping systems, every bend can be a potential

problem– an extra elbow means one more leakage point and additional pressure loss. The angle-type globe valve was developed precisely to solve

this challenge.


What's an angle-type globe valve?

Simply put, an angle-type globe valve is a globe valve with its inlet and outlet ports arranged at a 90° angle. Its closing member is a plug-shaped disc, with the sealing face typically designed as a flat or conical surface (conical seals are better suited for high-pressure applications). The disc moves in a linear reciprocating motion along the centreline of the fluid.

Depending on the stem movement, it can be classified into two types: non-rising stem (handwheel does not move up/down) and rising-rotating

stem (handwheel rotates and moves up/down together with the stem).

1. Lower pressure loss

In an angle-type globe valve, the fluid changes direction only once, whereas conventional globe valves require multiple turns. As a result, the pressure drop through an angle-type globe valve is significantly lower. The flow path is simpler, with smaller dead zones and vortex regions, and better self-cleaning performance.

2. Two functions in one – saving space and cost

The angle-type globe valve can be installed directly at a pipe bend, serving both as a fluid shut-off control device and as a replacement for a 90°

elbow. Eliminating one fitting means one fewer potential leak point and less installation space required.

3. Reliable sealing and longer service life

With a metal-to-metal sealing structure, the angle-type globe valve requires force to press the disc against the seat during closure. Compared with standard globe valves, it offers more reliable sealing performance and a longer service life, especially in high-frequency cycling applications.

4. Simple structure and easy maintenance

The angle-type globe valve has a relatively simple construction, making manufacture and maintenance straightforward. Its short stroke and quick

opening/closing action make it suitable for frequent operation.

Angle-type globe valves are used extensively in thermal power plants, nuclear power stations, and petrochemical systems under high-temperature

and high-pressure conditions; in high-pressure branch pipe elbows in oil refining, steam pipeline turns in utility boilers, and high-pressure hydraulic

system loops; as well as in fertiliser and chemical production, and in municipal water supply, wastewater treatment, and seawater desalination facilities.
